Checklist: Everyday Tasks for Leaders in the Food Industry
Being a leader in the food industry is a huge honour, whether that’s within production or manufacturing. However, with this honour comes a great deal of responsibility. As a leader, it is your job to ensure a team are managed well and that deadlines are met. To give yourself the best chance of leadership success, here’s what you should be doing every day:
- Motivate Your Team – Throughout the day, take the time to motivate the team. This could be in a morning meeting or individually throughout the day. A little bit of motivation can go a long way towards ensuring jobs are completed and people are working hard.
- Inform Everyone of Business Updates – If there are any important business updates, make sure you update everyone as soon as possible. This helps to keep everyone up to date and aware of days off, rota changes or HR reports.
- Set Goals and Expectations – Setting goals and expectations can help the team to stay on track throughout the day. For example, let them know what you want finished before the end of the day.
- Delegate the Day’s Tasks – It’s important that everyone knows what their tasks are and these should be delegated fairly. Take into consideration where individual strengths lie and share tasks out where they fit best. Without a clear list of who’s doing what, tasks and projects can fall behind.
- Provide Feedback and Constructive Criticism – Provide your team with feedback and constructive criticism throughout the day; this may be noting a small improvement that could be made or praising them for a job well done. Either way, feedback and criticism shows that you’re aware of their work.
- Get Stuck In – There’s nothing more important for a leader to do than to show that you’re getting stuck in. Whether it’s a small task or something much more complex, it’s key that your team see that you’re willing to help out wherever necessary. Not only does this help to build respect and appreciation, but it helps to finish tasks efficiently.
